When creating a personalised or template membership, simply tick the box! ✅

If you wish to set an active membership to auto-renew (and it was not set to auto-renew when created), as long as you have the client's permission, simply navigate to 'All Memberships' under 'Reporting', then select the membership you wish to edit, then select 'Edit Membership':
